I’m very grateful that you’ve enjoyed some of my articles on here, Patrick. I agree, Sam Cooke was just as powerful in his songs of social consciousness as Marvin Gaye. Although I’ve never written about any of his songs, I’m a big fan too.

As you describe, I also like the way that I can hear a song…either one I don’t consciously remember, or one I’ve heard hundreds of times without appreciating it fully…and it hits home in a way none of the other songs on the radio that day have.

That’s why I love music so much.
