Deeper Shade Of Blue — Steps
In a world that seems to be full of trouble, one thing’s for sure. A dose of Steps always makes the world feel like a better place.
I’ll be the first to admit, in this little corner of the internet where we get slightly over-obsessed about song lyrics, British pop group Steps isn’t perhaps…with the greatest respect to them…the first band you might think we’d be writing about.
Their success has been largely domestic, so if you’re reading this outside the UK, you may well not even have come across “H”, Lee, Claire, Lisa and Faye before. But you can still get in on the fun wherever in the world you are — it’s not like cricket or Eton Fives, virtually impenetrable to anyone not steeped in British culture for at least a few thousand years.
Nothing very bad ever happens in a world with Steps in it. They even had a UK Number One, a cover of the Bee Gee’s song “Tragedy”, which they managed to make the whole thing sound like quite a positive experience, all-in-all.
And some of their videos rather make you wonder what’s going on…or perhaps what the video director has been smoking. The aforementioned “Tragedy”, for example, features the three female singers walking down the aisle in church in wedding dresses…with, if memory serves, their actual fathers holding their arms. They are certainly the three most uncomfortable-looking…
